‘have no fear of this mess,’ said the cat in the hat. ‘i always pick up all my playthings and so… i will show you another good trick that i know!’
All of the sudden we turn the corner and the finish line is in sight. Wait. Not yet. We haven’t done all the things we wanted to do! And, oh boy, some tidying up is certainly needed round here! What happened to the wide open expanse of days and days stretching out ahead of us? The puzzle is done, but we haven’t finished the apron or made another chocolate cake — and what about animal cookies? There’s more to teach about Excel and PowerPoint — the project involving Excel graphs and charts still needs attention (yet another how-much-do-your-parents-know kind of homework assignment!). We’re only 3-for-5 on the Starbucks outings. There’s a certain room at the top of the stairs in desperate need of major clean-up action, or an archeological dig more like — that’s if they want to see a smile on their dad’s face when he returns.
We each have a to-do list on the chalkboard, and we’re checking it off. 24 hrs to go! Tick-Tock. If all goes well, we can relax tonight over the week’s favorite meal — with everyone at the table: homemade macaroni and cheese, cauliflower and chocolate pudding for dessert. Then maybe some games or a movie and ‘one more nights’ sleep before mom and dad return.
Wish us luck.
